aNewsItems[0] = "Congratulations to Amber and Jill for their win in WVetBNov4x+
They were asked to sub into a SPRC boat at the last minute, and over a shortened course managed to beat a CSRC quad by some considerable margin.
They were up against some harder competition in their double, didn't win but did gain some good race experience before heading to Poznan.
Our other club representative at Lochwinnoch, Jim Steel had a very good Vet quad race but despite a very hard close finish did not feature in the medals.
Though windy and cold at Lochwinnoch, looking at how much the rivers have risen here, the weather seems to have been better than up in the NE.";

aNewsItems[1] = "After the long summer holidays when many of you will have taken a break from the river and rowing, we’ve had two groups of people who have been taking full advantage of the lovely(?) weather and quieter water.

Our novice nights are almost at an end, and will finish with a New Novice Sprint Regatta on Saturday 27th August. Elspeth and all the novice night organisers have done a great job in getting people together in crews and getting them to commit to racing at the Regatta.

We’re planning on starting at noon with a series of races for male crews, female crews and mixed crews, finishing with a BBQ.

The BBQ will be open to all members, cost £6 each (tickets on sale in the bar), so we are hoping that you can come along and support the novices and support the BBQ. You could also use this as a start to the winters training – see who is around and who is planning on what for the new season.

The other group who have been busy on the water are a small group who are heading off to Poznan, Poland for the World Masters Regatta which will take place 8th - 11th September.

Tricia and Elspeth are competing in WA2x, WB2x and Elspeth is also doing the WB1x. Carol and Louise are doing the WD2x and then joining up with Tricia and Elspeth to do A WC4+ with Ron coxing.

Amber and Jill are racing a WC2x and Amber is also racing her WC1x.

Representing the men we have our President, Jim who is featuring in a G8+ with Belfast, Carnegie Lake, Denver and Detroit (it must have been interesting planning the training sessions!), but he’s also joining forces with Loch Lomond and Strathclyde Park to race both a C4x and a D4x.

The boats are being towed to Poland by Steven Kerr and Iain Wilson of St Andrew Boat Club and some of the cost of towing has been offset by sponsorship from DFDS Seaways – many thanks to them for their help.";
