If you are interested in taking up rowing but have no previous experience, there are two routes available to you: the ‘Intercompany Regatta’ and ‘Novice Nights’.
Every year teams of novice rowers compete on the river Dee in one of the highlight events of the local rowing calendar, the Intercompany Regatta. This event is specifically aimed at people who have never rowed before and is open to teams of four men, four women or mixed crews of four.
Training for the event takes place over 6 sessions, usually beginning in April/May, and every session is coached by an experienced member of the club who will instruct you on the correct rowing technique and safety on the water.
Many people who take part in the Intercompany row enjoy it so much they want to continue to row afterwards. To help receive full rowing membership at the club for an additional 3 months after the event allowing them to as well as a years social membership.

Each year, ABC host a series of beginner’s sessions over the summer which aim to provide novice rowers with an easy and effective route into rowing.
Starting in July, the Novice Nights run each week through to early September and are open to all, whether you aspire to be the next Steve Redgrave or just want to row to keep fit!
New novice rowers, trying rowing for the first time, are entitled to three free sessions. To continue rowing after this point you are encouraged to become a member of Aberdeen Boat Club. As an extra incentive, all new members are offered 1st year membership at a discounted rate (see membership fees).
